SSC JE Examination 2026: 1,748 Posts, Eligibility, Dates and Correction Window

The notice lists 1,748 tentative vacancies. The fee can be paid until 23 September at 23:00, and candidates with a completed application and received fee can use the correction window from 28 to 30 September 2026 at 23:00. The safest workflow is to treat the form, fee and correction deadlines as separate checkpoints. Do not assume that submitting the form without a successful fee receipt completes the application. The notice covers Junior Engineer posts across organisations such as the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Brahmaputra Board, Central Water Commission, Central Public Works Department, Central Water and Power Research Station, DGQA-NAVAL, Farakka Barrage Project, Military Engineer Services, National Technical Research Organisation, the Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships, the Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. It also includes Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department for the relevant degree routes. The notice's qualification table is the controlling comparison. Where experience is prescribed, SSC says it must have been acquired after completing the requisite educational qualification; internship, training and research experience during the course are not counted as that experience. A result can meet the educational-qualification condition only when documentary evidence shows that the result was declared and the candidate was declared passed by the relevant cut-off. Mere processing of a result is not enough. Candidates called for document verification must be ready with original mark sheets, degree or provisional certificate and experience proof where required.

The notice also contains an important qualification-mode caution. Engineering and several other disciplines are generally prohibited from being offered through open, distance or online mode unless accepted under the applicable statutory or regulatory provisions. Do not use a generic online-degree assumption; compare the exact programme and recognition position against the notice and governing rules.

The crucial date for age reckoning is 1 August 2026. For posts with an upper age limit of 30 years, the notice gives a date-of-birth range from 2 August 1996 through 1 August 2008, inclusive. For posts with an upper limit of 32 years, it gives 2 August 1994 through 1 August 2008. The notice lists relaxations such as five years for SC/ST, three years for OBC, and different PwBD and Ex-Servicemen provisions subject to the applicable rules and certificates. The post table still matters because the age limit can differ by organisation and post.

BRO requires a separate safety check. The notice includes physical efficiency and medical standards in Annexure XVI, warns candidates to examine those standards before applying, and says a post allocated through merit-cum-preference may not be changed later if the candidate fails the standards. The new OTR point is easy to miss for applicants who registered on the old SSC site. The official notice states that the old-site OTR will not be functional for the new website, so complete the registration on ssc.gov.in before starting the examination form. Aadhaar-based authentication is advised in the notice; the exact portal flow and the information you can use should be followed as displayed at the time of submission.

The correction window is not a second chance to file a missing application. Only candidates whose completed application and applicable fee were received within the original period can make corrections. The notice allows a candidate to correct and resubmit up to two times. Once a corrected form is submitted with the required correction charge, the latest modified form is treated as valid and the earlier form is cancelled. Correction charges are online and non-refundable, and no change is accepted after the window closes.

Paper-I combines reasoning, general awareness and the technical part selected in the form. It is qualifying, and candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on normalized Paper-I performance and the minimum qualifying marks. Paper-II is the subject paper for the selected route; only normalized Paper-II scores are used for final merit. The notice says the subject or stream selected as per the essential qualification cannot be changed, so the form choice deserves the same care as the qualification check. Some qualification combinations can create more than one post or paper opportunity, but the relevant post and paper conditions still apply.
