A visual comparison of the two NHSRC NUHM consultant pathways.

NHSRC’s current-vacancy page lists two new National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) opportunities dated 15 September 2026: Consultant-NUHM and Senior Consultant-NUHM. Both are contract appointments based in New Delhi, both require travel to states and districts, and both accept online applications through 6 October 2026. The practical difference is the experience threshold: the Consultant notice asks for at least two years of post-qualification experience, while the Senior Consultant notice asks for at least five years. The stated remuneration bands and age ceilings also differ, so applicants should compare the two Terms of Reference before choosing which role to pursue. These are public-health programme roles under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, not a generic permanent government-service intake.

What the official NHSRC page currently shows

The official NHSRC recruitment page shows the two NUHM rows with the same notification date, 15 September 2026, and the same closing date, 6 October 2026. The rows identify the Consultant role with code CNNM and the Senior Consultant role with code SCNM, and link each role to its own Terms of Reference PDF. The page also provides a Login/Sign up route for the online application. The AvsarIQ records classify both opportunities as open, published, verified through multiple official sources and not in manual review; the live records do not state a vacancy count, so this article does not invent one.

Consultant-NUHM: qualification, experience and pay

The Consultant Terms of Reference set the position as a one-year contractual appointment in New Delhi, with a three-month probation period and possible extension based on performance and other relevant conditions. The notice gives a remuneration range of ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000; the offered amount within that band is linked to qualification and experience. The maximum age is 45 years as on the last date of submission of the application. The role requires a postgraduate or higher qualification in Public Health, Community Health, Preventive and Social Medicine, or Administration. It also asks for at least two years of post-qualification work experience in health-systems research or in planning and implementation of service delivery.

Beyond the academic and experience conditions, the Consultant notice asks for computer proficiency, including familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and web research. It also describes strong English communication and presentation skills, analytical and interpersonal ability, multidisciplinary teamwork and willingness to travel. Working knowledge of Hindi is described as desirable. The work involves technical assistance to states and urban local bodies, support for State Programme Implementation Plans, monitoring visits, capacity building, documentation and coordination with NHSRC and Ministry divisions.

Senior Consultant-NUHM: the higher experience band

The Senior Consultant notice describes the same one-year contract structure, New Delhi location and nationwide travel expectation, but sets a higher experience bar. It offers ₹90,000 to ₹1,50,000, with the final amount within the band commensurate with qualification and experience, and sets a maximum age of 50 years on the last date of application. The qualification route remains a postgraduate or higher qualification in public health, community health, preventive and social medicine, or administration. The experience requirement rises to at least five years after qualification in health-systems research or planning and implementation of service delivery.

The Senior Consultant Terms of Reference describes technical and managerial support for NUHM, including programme planning, monitoring, procurement and contract-management inputs, capacity building, coordination with states and urban local bodies, and evidence-based reporting. It asks for the same core computer, communication and multidisciplinary-work capabilities as the Consultant notice. The Senior Consultant role is therefore not simply a higher salary label: the five-year experience condition and the wider technical and managerial responsibilities should be checked against the applicant’s own record.

How to apply through the NHSRC page

Start at the NHSRC current-vacancy page and open the PDF attached to the role you want to assess. The page’s Login/Sign up control leads into the application route. The Terms of Reference say applications are accepted only in the prescribed online application format and give 6 October 2026 as the last date for receiving applications. Use one role’s notice as the controlling checklist, rather than assuming that meeting the Consultant experience level also satisfies the Senior Consultant route.

  1. Open the current-vacancy page and save the correct PDF: Consultant-NUHM or Senior Consultant-NUHM.
  2. Compare your postgraduate subject, post-qualification experience and age on the closing date with the exact role notice.
  3. Prepare experience evidence that makes the post-qualification period and health-systems or service-delivery work clear.
  4. Review the New Delhi base and nationwide travel requirement before committing to the application.
  5. Use the page’s Login/Sign up route to complete the prescribed online form and review every field before submission.
  6. Keep the submitted application or acknowledgement record and monitor the NHSRC page for later communication.

Written-test language and contract expectations

Both Terms of Reference include the same conditional written-test language: if the recruitment process includes a written test, the minimum qualifying mark is 70%. If the number of qualifying candidates is high, the notice says a 1:5 ratio will be used, with the top five candidates considered for one vacancy; candidates tied at the qualifying mark are also considered. This is a condition in the notice, not a promise that every selection cycle will use a written test. Read any later NHSRC communication for the actual assessment stages.

  • Treat the appointment as a one-year contract with a three-month probation period, not as a permanent appointment.
  • Plan for New Delhi as the base and travel to states, districts or urban local bodies as part of the work.
  • Keep evidence for qualification, post-qualification experience, communication capability and programme work ready for any later scrutiny.
  • Read the role-specific Terms of Reference completely because the Senior Consultant position carries higher experience and age limits but also broader technical and managerial expectations.

Official source trail and a careful final check

The Consultant-NUHM Terms of Reference and Senior Consultant-NUHM Terms of Reference are the controlling role documents. The NHSRC current-vacancy page supplies the live listing date, closing date and application route. Recheck that page immediately before submission, because a recruitment page or later notice can change an application instruction. The AvsarIQ opportunity blocks above are current-data summaries checked against these official sources; they do not replace the official PDFs.
