UPSC Advertisement 11/2026: 212 Posts, Eligibility and Apply

The headline total is spread across seven vacancy numbers. The largest group is Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Directorate of Prosecution under the Government of NCT of Delhi, with 140 posts. General Medicine accounts for 60 Specialist Grade III Assistant Professor posts. The remaining groups are four Anatomy teaching posts, two Assistant Editor posts, one Specialist Grade II post in Anaesthesiology, one Specialist Grade II post in Pediatrics, and four Public Law Officer/District Litigation Officer/Law Officer posts under the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The notice gives separate service contexts, pay levels, reservation positions and qualification language for each group, so a reader should not treat the 212-post total as a single eligibility pool.

For the medical teaching route, the notice asks for the recognised postgraduate qualification in the concerned specialty and at least three years of teaching experience after the first postgraduate degree for the Anatomy and General Medicine posts. The two Specialist Grade II posts instead use the specialty qualification and experience wording in their individual sections: the notice distinguishes the experience period after a postgraduate degree from the period after a postgraduate diploma. Treat those as post-specific conditions, not as interchangeable medical credentials. The notice also identifies service restrictions such as private-practice rules for the medical posts, so the full section for the vacancy number matters.

The Assistant Editor route is separate from the medical and law routes. The notice describes a bachelor's degree with its prescribed journalism or mass-communication pathway, a possible alternate subject combination, and three years of editing, publishing or allied experience. A master's qualification and publishing-software knowledge are described as desirable rather than a substitute for the essential route. Its upper-age row is also different from the specialist and prosecution roles. Applicants should preserve the experience certificate and the qualification document that supports the exact route selected.

The 140 Assistant Public Prosecutor posts require a law degree and three years' experience at the Bar. The notice gives category-based age rows and a separate set of conditions for certain currently serving contractual employees in the Delhi Prosecution service. The four Ladakh law posts are narrower: they require a professional or integrated law degree, two years of actual Bar practice certified by the prescribed authority, and the applicable Ladakh domicile conditions. The Ladakh option also has a later application close, but that does not extend the deadline for the other six groups.

The official notice says that online applications began on 12 September 2026. For every post other than the post under the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh, submission through the UPSC online route closes at 18:00 hours on 2 October 2026. The Ladakh Public Law Officer/District Litigation Officer/Law Officer post closes at 18:00 hours on 9 October 2026. That is a difference between post groups, not a general extension. Check the vacancy number on the form before relying on the later date.

The notice describes four online modules. Account creation, Universal Registration and the Common Application Form are common across UPSC recruitment applications; the fourth module is specific to the post or vacancy. A Universal Registration Number remains common to the candidate's UPSC recruitment activity, while the post-specific application number can vary by vacancy. The portal provides instructions inside the modules, and the notice advises applicants to prepare their documents before starting the upload steps. It also strongly advises use of Aadhaar as the identity document for easier verification and authentication, subject to the portal's live instructions.

The notice's general instructions refer to documentary proof for date of birth, degree or diploma, equivalent qualifications, experience, caste or reservation, disability and other claims made in the application. Experience certificates should describe the duration, employer, nature of duties and relevant post in the prescribed or acceptable form; an informal letter or incomplete certificate can create a verification problem. Applicants using the Ladakh route should prepare the prescribed domicile certificate and the Bar-practice certification. Assistant Public Prosecutor applicants relying on the contractual age-relaxation provision need the department-issued certificate described in the advertisement. These are document-planning points, not a personal eligibility decision.

The advertisement is a recruitment-by-selection notice. UPSC may shortlist when applications are numerous by using desirable qualifications, higher qualifications, higher relevant experience, or a Recruitment Test. Shortlisting criteria can vary by post. The notice gives interview suitability thresholds and says the interview date will be communicated separately. For the law roles, the document also describes mandatory induction training after selection.
