RRB CEN 04/2026: 3,993 JE and DMS vacancies qualification, one-RRB choice and deadlines
A practical evening guide to the new Railway technical recruitment notice, from post mapping to final submission safeguards.

RRB CEN 04/2026 is a new Railway technical recruitment notice for 3,993 combined vacancies across various Junior Engineer (JE) posts and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS). The official notice places the roles at Level 6 with an initial pay of ₹35,400 and opens online applications from 14 August 2026. The immediate decision is not simply whether an applicant has an engineering qualification. It is whether the qualification maps to an opted post, whether the applicant can satisfy the relevant medical standard, and whether the chosen RRB and post preferences are entered carefully enough to survive the later stages. The official detailed CEN is the controlling source for the post parameters and vacancy table. It says the vacancies are provisional, does not publish a separate JE-versus-DMS total in the headline table, and requires applicants to read Annexure A and Annexure B before applying. The application portal is the place to submit; search snippets or coaching summaries should not replace the notice. This guide interprets the published conditions for planning and does not make a personal eligibility decision.

What CEN 04/2026 actually announces
The notice covers various JE disciplines and DMS under one centralised employment notice. The combined total is 3,993 for all RRBs. The published headline table gives Level 6, an initial pay of ₹35,400, an age range of 18–33 years as on 1 January 2027, and the applicable medical standard by post. The detailed RRB-wise and Railway/production-unit-wise distribution sits in Annexure B; the post-wise qualification and medical parameters sit in Annexure A. That structure matters because a national total is not a personal vacancy promise. Railway administrations can revise, increase, reduce or cancel vacancies according to their requirements. The AvsarIQ record therefore keeps the combined number and flags the vacancy table as provisional. Treat the number as the scope of the notice, then use the annexures to decide which post and RRB preferences you can responsibly select.
| Checkpoint | Official position | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Online application opens | 14 August 2026 | Create or use the RRB account and begin only after checking the annexures. |
| Final online submission | 13 September 2026 at 23:59 hours | The prescribed qualification must already be held by this closing date. |
| Fee payment for submitted applications | 15 September 2026 | Do not confuse a saved form with a submitted, paid application. |
| Modification window | 16 to 25 September 2026 | A ₹250 non-refundable modification fee applies; account details and chosen RRB cannot be changed. |
| Eligible scribe details | 26 to 30 September 2026 | Use the application instructions and prescribed dates if this support is relevant. |
JE and DMS are different qualification routes
The live AvsarIQ post records separate the two broad routes. For various JE posts, the notice uses a three-year diploma or a bachelor degree in engineering or technology in the relevant discipline. The discipline mapping is the key: the listed groups include civil and allied, electrical and allied, electronics and allied, mechanical and allied, and computer science and allied routes, but the exact post parameters and accepted combinations must be checked in Annexure A. A degree title that sounds broadly technical is not enough to skip the post-specific table. For DMS, the record points to a three-year engineering diploma from a recognised institution. The CEN does not turn every engineering qualification into every JE or DMS option. Candidates waiting for final results of the prescribed qualification on the last date should not apply under that qualification. Keep the certificate or result evidence that establishes when the qualification was actually completed, because the notice says the qualification condition is checked against the closing date and original documents are verified later. Age is also a date-based check, not a general age impression. The common age band is 18–33 years as on 1 January 2027, with category-based relaxation subject to the prescribed certificates. Medical standards differ by post and are not a decorative footnote: the notice says a candidate found medically unsuitable for an opted post will not receive an alternative appointment. Read the relevant medical standard before locking preferences.

Place your details beside the official requirements

Create or open your profileThe one-RRB choice deserves more attention than the vacancy headline
CEN 04/2026 allows an applicant to choose only one RRB and then indicate preferences for the Railway zones and posts or categories notified under that RRB. The notice says partial options are treated as unwillingness for the posts or categories left unselected, and options once exercised are final. This makes the RRB choice a strategic application field, not a harmless dropdown that can be corrected later. The account-creation step has a separate trap. Existing RRB users are told to use their earlier account credentials; new users must create an account before filling the application. The name, parents’ names, date of birth, mobile number and email details entered in account creation need to match the prescribed records, and the notice says account details cannot be modified later. A correction window does not rescue a wrong chosen RRB or wrong account identity details.
- Open the official CEN PDF and mark every JE or DMS post for which your completed qualification, discipline and medical standard can be matched in Annexure A.
- Use Annexure B to compare the Railway or production-unit distribution under the one RRB you are considering; do not choose from a national vacancy headline alone.
- Confirm that the prescribed qualification is completed by 13 September 2026 and that the result or certificate evidence can support the claim at document verification.
- Enter account-creation identity details exactly as required, because the notice excludes later changes to those fields.
- Choose one RRB only, then list preferences only for posts and zones you would genuinely accept and for which the notice gives a matching route.
- Prepare the photograph, signature and other scanned documents in the portal's required format before the final submission stage.
- Pay the applicable examination fee by the separate fee deadline and retain the transaction and submitted-application evidence.
- If you use the modification window, remember that it does not permit changing the account-creation details or chosen RRB, and each modification carries the stated non-refundable fee.
Fee, CBT and medical checks: plan the full process
The official CEN lists ₹500 for most candidates, with ₹400 refunded after appearing in the first-stage CBT, subject to the notice's conditions. It lists ₹250 for the specified concession categories, with the stated refund after appearing in the first-stage CBT. The notice separately warns that EBC for fee concession must not be confused with OBC, EWS or a State Extremely Backward Class category. Read the certificate instructions before claiming a concession. The recruitment process is not complete at the application screen. The notice describes computer-based tests, shortlisting, document verification and medical examination, with one-third negative marking in the CBT. The exact test schedule will be communicated later through official RRB channels. Medical standards are tied to the opted post, so a candidate should check them before selecting preferences rather than after a result. A provisional application or e-call letter is not a final acceptance of eligibility.
Primary sources and the live-check boundary
Use the official CEN 04/2026 detailed notice for qualifications, age, fees, medical standards, selection rules and vacancy tables. Use the RRB Apply application portal for account creation and submission, and the official RRB website route for later notices. The current AvsarIQ opportunity block above is the structured snapshot checked for the 16 August 2026 evening slot; reopen the primary pages before submitting because dates, portal availability and official instructions can change. The safe takeaway is simple: CEN 04/2026 is a sizeable technical recruitment, but the useful application decision is local and specific. Match the exact qualification and medical standard, choose one RRB deliberately, protect the account details, finish the payment and submission checkpoints, and preserve evidence. The official notice—not a headline, an aggregator or this guide—decides how your application will be assessed.
