IOB Security Guard Recruitment 2026-27: 25 Posts, Eligibility and Fitness Test

The current Indian Overseas Bank notice dated 25 August 2026 opens a focused Security Guard recruitment for eligible Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers. The official advertisement lists 25 vacancies, with online registration open from 25 August to 14 September 2026, and says that no other application mode will be accepted. This is not a general bank-clerk opening: the notice requires a qualifying service background, a 10th-standard route without a passed graduation qualification, Tamil language ability, and the prescribed service and medical conditions. The selection path combines an online objective test, a separate Tamil language test and a physical fitness test. Indian Overseas Bank has identified the current vacancies in Chennai, while reserving the right to post selected candidates anywhere in Tamil Nadu. The recruitment is for the subordinate staff cadre. The official notice says selected candidates may be required to work in shifts, including night shifts, and describes the role as guarding bank premises and property, operating security equipment and supporting fire-safety operations. There is no application fee for this process. The bank will issue later examination and physical-test information through its authorised channels, so the present notice should be used for preparation rather than for assuming an exam date.

The notice states that applicants must be Ex-Servicemen or Ex-Agniveers from the Army, Navy or Air Force and must meet the applicable definition and certificate requirements. Disabled Ex-Servicemen, dependants of servicemen killed in action and the other excluded categories named in the notice should not treat this vacancy as an open route. The educational rule is also unusually specific: a candidate should have passed the 10th standard or an equivalent examination but should not have passed graduation or an equivalent qualification. The candidate should be able to speak, read and write Tamil. The notice also refers to an exemplary character at valid discharge, service records and a minimum SHAPE-1 or AYE medical standard, whichever applies, at the time of valid discharge. The base age in the advertisement is 18 to 26 years as on 1 August 2026. The notice then provides different upper-age calculations for service and category situations, subject to a maximum age of 45 years for Ex-Servicemen where stated. The published table gives General as 26 years plus actual defence service plus 3 years, SC/ST as 31 years plus actual service plus 3 years, and OBC as 29 years plus actual service plus 3 years. For Agniveers, it gives 21 years plus actual Agniveer service plus 3 years. Because service dates, category certificates and the definition of Ex-Servicemen affect the calculation, applicants should use these figures as a checklist and verify their exact position from the advertisement rather than applying a simplified age formula.

The application route begins at the IOB Careers page. Open the current Recruitment 2026-27 section, choose Recruitment of Security Guards and use the Apply Online link. The notice says the applicant must first register, note the registration number and password delivered by email or SMS, and complete the form personally. The form requires a photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration; the portal also asks for a live photograph. Keep a personal email address active because the bank may use it for call letters and later recruitment communication. After completing registration, download or print the system-generated submitted application and keep it with the service and educational records.

The official selection sequence has three parts: an online objective-type test, a Tamil local-language test and a physical fitness test. The online test carries 80 marks split equally across English language knowledge, aptitude, arithmetic and psychometric testing, with 20 marks for each component. The Tamil language test is held separately for 20 marks. The bank will decide overall cut-off scores for general and reserved categories based on performance and available vacancies, and the notice reserves the right to modify the test structure through its authorised website. Candidates should therefore prepare from the published structure but continue checking the official page for any later instruction.

Candidates who clear the online and Tamil tests and otherwise satisfy the recruitment conditions may be called for the physical fitness test at Chennai. The test carries 100 marks across push-ups, sit-ups, a one-kilometre run and drill. The notice gives a minimum qualifying score for every component as well as a grand-total threshold of 65. Push-ups and sit-ups have no specified time limit and must be performed at a stretch without a break. The one-kilometre run is scored by timing, while the drill assesses commands, turns and saluting. The bank says a candidate gets only one attempt in each physical test. A medical fitness certificate from a medical practitioner with the required registration level must be submitted, and the certificate cannot be older than 15 days on the date of the physical test.

For the online test, the notice requires a valid call letter, an original photo-identity proof with a matching name, a photocopy of that identity proof, and the original Ex-Servicemen identity card with a photocopy. At the physical fitness stage, candidates should be ready with the valid call letter, system-generated application printout, proof of date of birth, photo identity, marksheets and educational certificates, discharge book, Ex-Servicemen identity card and the applicable SC, ST, OBC or EWS certificate. The bank can require other documents supporting the application. Carry originals and self-attested copies as instructed; missing documents can prevent participation even after a call letter is issued.

The selected candidate is placed in the subordinate staff cadre under the pay scale printed in the advertisement: Rs 19,500-665/4-22,160-830/5-26,310-990/4-30,270-1,170/3-33,780-1,345/3-37,815. The notice says basic pay will be fixed based on the last drawn defence-service salary, with other emoluments governed by the industry-wide Bipartite Settlement and bank rules. The selected candidate will be on probation for six months of active service. Although the present vacancies are identified in Chennai, the bank reserves the right to post a selected candidate at any branch or office in Tamil Nadu. The published job profile includes shift work, including night shifts, so applicants should consider that condition before submitting the form.

The current sources do not announce an online-test date or physical-test date. After submitting, keep the registered email active, monitor the official IOB Careers page and retain the final application printout. The bank says call letters for the online and physical stages will carry the relevant venue and date information. Do not assume that an application submission guarantees a call: the notice permits eligibility and document scrutiny at later stages and says the bank can reject an application that fails the stated conditions.
