A visual cue for Western Railway’s live sports-quota application window and trial-based selection.

As checked against Western Railway’s current official notifications page and linked application route on 2 September 2026, online applications for the 2026-27 Sports Quota recruitment are open. The official notice sets the window from 1 September at 10:00 IST through 30 September 2026 at 18:00 IST. It advertises 64 posts: 21 Group C posts and 43 posts in the erstwhile Group D category. This is a material status update from the pre-opening edition, when the live AvsarIQ opportunity was announced and the older route redirected to RegistrationEnded. The official notifications page now provides an Apply Online link to the current registration portal. Use that linked route and the notification together, and do not substitute a forwarded or unofficial form. The notice is the controlling source for the dates, pay levels, education, sports-achievement standards, fee, trial and selection process. The key preparation task is to map your recognised education and sports record to the correct level before paying: Level 5/4 posts require graduation, Level 3/2 posts accept the specified higher-secondary or technical routes, and Level 1 posts accept the listed school or trade qualifications. Age is 18 to 25 years as on 1 January 2027, subject to the notice’s exact birth-date rule. Because the application asks for discipline, pay-level and document details, applicants should keep original certificates, a recent photograph, the required signature file and an active Aadhaar-linked identity record ready.

Today’s schedule and post split

Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 is dated 27 August 2026 and covers recruitment against Sports Quota for Western Railway for the year 2026-27. The notice divides the 64 posts across the pay levels used in the sports recruitment rules. There are five posts at Level 5/4, 16 posts at Level 3/2 and 43 posts at Level 1. These are vacancy counts in the official notice, not a promise that every discipline or every listed sports event has an opening. The notice also says vacancies are provisional. Check the discipline-wise and level-wise table in the PDF before deciding which application, if any, fits your record. If you want to apply in more than one discipline or pay level, read the duplicate-application rule carefully: the notification requires a separate application and fee for each discipline or pay level as applicable, while duplicate applications for the same choice can be rejected.

The age rule is 18 to 25 years as on 1 January 2027. The notification gives the inclusive birth-date range as 1 January 2002 through 1 January 2009. Use the dates printed in the PDF and do not infer relaxation from a general railway rule: the exact notice and any category provision control. The education check changes with the post level. A candidate considering Level 5/4 needs graduation in any discipline. For Level 3/2, the notice accepts 12th or equivalent, or matriculation with Act Apprenticeship, or matriculation with an NCVT or SCVT ITI. For Level 1, the listed routes are 10th, ITI or NAC. These are document requirements, so keep the certificate that proves the route entered in the form. A sports result alone does not replace the education requirement, and an education certificate alone does not replace the sports-achievement requirement.

Education routes by pay-level group
Pay levelEducation route stated in the noticeCheck before applying
Level 5/4Graduate in any disciplineUse the recognised degree or graduation record requested by the form.
Level 3/212th or equivalent; or matric plus Act Apprenticeship; or matric plus NCVT/SCVT ITISelect the route that matches the certificate you will show at verification.
Level 110th; or ITI; or NACConfirm the selected discipline and level accept the route in the notice.

The sports-achievement period is equally important. The notification considers achievements acquired from 1 April 2024 through the date of the notification, 27 August 2026. If an event spans more than one date, the concluding day of the event is relevant under the notice. Enter the exact sport, event, position, date and level shown on the certificate. The standards are not one universal medal rule: Level 5/4, Level 3/2 and Level 1 have different lists of accepted competitions, finishes and participation conditions. The PDF includes international, continental, national and other competition categories depending on the level and discipline. Read the table for your sport rather than assuming that a certificate from one competition qualifies for every pay level. If the certificate is not in English or Hindi, arrange the required translation before trial or document verification.

Sports norms are level-specific

For Level 5/4, the notice gives examples such as Olympic participation and at least third position in specified World Cup, World Championship, Asian, Commonwealth, Youth Olympics or Champions Trophy events. The Level 3/2 and Level 1 sections have their own combinations of international, university, national and other recognised events and finishes. These examples explain why the level-wise PDF table should be treated as a checklist, not as a headline summary. A certificate may be strong in one competition category but still not match the level, event or date required for the post. Save a clear scan of the certificate, keep any supporting result sheet or federation document requested, and write the position and event exactly as printed. At the trial, the recruitment authority can compare originals with the application record.

  • Sports certificate showing the event, discipline, position, date and issuing authority.
  • Education certificate matching the selected pay-level route, plus the relevant mark sheets or apprenticeship or ITI record.
  • Aadhaar 12-digit number or 28-digit enrolment ID, with name, father’s name and date of birth matching the supporting documents.
  • Category, EBC, minority, ex-servicemen or PwD documents where a claim is made and the notice asks for them.
  • A recent photograph and signature prepared to the official file format, dimensions and size limits.
  • An active email address and mobile number for registration messages, trial notices and later communication.

Fee and application mechanics

The fee is ₹500 for general applicants. The notification sets ₹250 for SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwD, women, minorities and EBC applicants in the categories it names. The refund condition is specific: eligible candidates who actually appear in the trial may receive the applicable refund, after bank charges, under the notice. Do not describe the ₹250 amount as a blanket fee exemption, and do not assume a refund without attending the trial when called. Pay online as part of the application, retain the e-receipt, and review the form before payment because the notification says the application cannot be edited after payment. Aadhaar or enrolment details, active contact information and exact document names should be checked before the final step. The form is not a place to test multiple versions of the same application: the notice warns that duplicate applications can be rejected.

How selection works

All applicants whose forms and documents meet the initial conditions are called for a sports trial. The trial awards the game-skill, fitness and coach-observation marks specified in the notification. Only candidates marked FIT and securing at least 25 out of 40 in the trial component proceed to the next stage. The final assessment totals 100 marks: 50 for sports achievement, 40 for the trial and 10 for education. The minimum total qualifying marks are 70 for Level 5/4, 65 for Level 3/2 and 60 for Level 1. Offers are made in merit order subject to document and medical verification, and the notice gives the younger candidate preference in a tie. These rules make the quality of the sports certificate and trial preparation important, but they do not promise selection to any applicant who meets the minimum threshold. Keep originals and self-attested copies ready, and read the notice for the trial venue, discipline instructions and medical requirements when the authority publishes them.

A step-by-step application checklist

  1. Open the official Western Railway notifications page and follow its current Apply Online link to the Sports Quota registration portal.
  2. Read the PDF’s discipline-wise vacancy table and decide which sport, event and pay level your certificate can support before beginning the form.
  3. Confirm the age, education and sports-achievement dates against the notice; do not rely on a general railway eligibility page.
  4. Prepare the Aadhaar or enrolment ID, certificates, category proof where applicable, recent photograph, signature and active contact details.
  5. Enter the name, father’s name, date of birth, discipline, position and other details exactly as the documents show them.
  6. Review the application and fee category before paying; separate applications and fees may be required for separate discipline or pay-level choices.
  7. Save the registration number, final form, payment receipt and uploaded files, then monitor the official site for trial and verification notices.

Photo, signature and trial-day checklist

The application instructions specify a recent photograph of 3.5 cm by 3.5 cm in JPG or JPEG format, scanned at 100 DPI and between 20 KB and 70 KB. The photograph should not be older than three months and should not show a cap or sunglasses. The signature should be 3.5 cm by 2.5 cm in JPG or JPEG at 100 DPI and between 20 KB and 30 KB. Check the preview after upload. A successful file transfer is not the same as a clear, recognisable image. If called for trial, take original certificates, self-attested copies and translations for documents not in English or Hindi. The notice says candidates should bring their own sports kit and four passport-size photographs. Trials may require two or three days, and no TA, DA or accommodation is provided. Plan travel only after the official trial notice gives the venue and reporting instructions.

Posting, service bond and final cautions

The posts are on Western Railway and may involve posting anywhere on that railway. The notice describes the minimum pay level and allowances, training or stipend conditions where applicable, medical verification and the provisional nature of the vacancies. It also refers to a possible security deposit or bond and a five-year service bond for selected appointees. Read those employment conditions before treating the sports intake as a short-term opportunity. The RRC/WR notice is the final authority for the discipline list, certificates, fee, trial, merit, medical and appointment conditions. No agent or coaching centre can improve an application. Ignore unofficial payment links, copied registration forms and messages that ask for money outside the official route.

Official links and next action

Read the Western Railway RRC/WR notifications page for the live notice listing, the Employment Notice No. RRC/WR/01/2026 PDF for the full vacancy, sports, education, fee and selection rules, and the current official-linked Sports Quota application portal. The page now links that portal for Apply Online, and the route returned a Registration Portal response on 2 September. If the live portal or a later corrigendum differs from this guide, follow the latest official instruction and re-check the deadline before payment.
