UPSC Recruitment 2026: 828 Delhi Principal and Vice-Principal posts before the 14 August deadline

If you are considering UPSC Special Advertisement No. 51/2026, the immediate decision is not simply whether 828 vacancies exist. The official notice divides them into 124 Principal posts and 704 Vice-Principal posts in the Education Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi, and the online recruitment application closes at 18:00 on 14 August 2026. The application route is the UPSC Online Recruitment Application portal. This guide puts the two post families side by side so you can check the relevant experience, documents, fee and test pattern before submitting. Treat every comparison as a preparation aid, not as a final eligibility decision: UPSC will determine candidature from the notice, the application and the supporting records.

The notice is a recruitment-by-selection advertisement rather than a general UPSC examination notification. Both posts are in Delhi Education and are described as permanent General Central Service Group A, Gazetted, Non-Ministerial positions with a one-year probation period. The Principal post carries Level 12 pay, while the Vice-Principal post carries Level 10 pay. The official vacancy tables also include category and PwBD reservation details. An important administrative point is that the notice says OBC reservation for these posts is tied to an OBC certificate issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi; a certificate issued by another State or Union Territory is not automatically treated as Delhi OBC reservation evidence.

For Principal, the official advertisement lists a Master's degree from a recognised university or institute, a Bachelor of Education from a recognised university or institute, and ten years of teaching experience as a Vice Principal, Post Graduate Teacher, Trained Graduate Teacher, or in the other recognised school and college settings described in the notice. It also lists a doctorate and administrative-charge experience as desirable rather than as the basic requirement. The normal upper-age figures are 50 years for UR and EWS, 53 for OBC and 55 for SC/ST, with the notice setting out further PwBD relaxation subject to its maximum. Before using the form, put every period of experience into a document trail and check that the certificate describes the duties and duration in the prescribed or otherwise acceptable format.

Vice-Principal has a separate screening profile. The notice requires a Master's degree and Bachelor of Education, then gives an experience alternative of two years as a Post Graduate Teacher or three years as a Trained Graduate Teacher. The normal upper-age figures are 35 years for UR and EWS, 38 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST, again with the notice's stated relaxation provisions. Do not transfer the Principal age or experience rule into this post, and do not assume that the shorter experience alternative removes the need to prove the exact teaching role. The post's duties include administrative, academic and financial responsibilities, but the experience must still be compared with the wording and evidence requirements in the official advertisement.

The UPSC notice describes four online modules: account creation, Universal Registration, the Common Application Form and the post or vacancy-specific module. The first three are common across recruitment applications and can be completed in advance; the fourth is tied to the advertised vacancy. Once the URN is generated, the post-specific form produces its own application number. Keep both numbers. The notice also asks applicants to provide supporting documents for claims such as date of birth, category, educational qualification, experience and age relaxation. A live email address matters because the Commission says correspondence and interview requirements may be sent electronically.

The notice is unusually explicit about document support. It asks candidates to upload evidence for each claim, including date of birth, degree or diploma, experience, category, disability and age relaxation where applicable. Experience certificates should identify the duration and nature of duties. If a certificate is not in Hindi or English, the notice asks for an attested transcript. Keep the original documents and self-attested copies ready in case you are called for interview. The application itself is provisional until the Commission checks the prescribed conditions and documents.

The official notice says a pen-and-paper Combined Recruitment Test for Principal and Vice-Principal is scheduled for 1 November 2026. It describes a two-hour objective test with questions carrying equal marks, bilingual English and Hindi presentation, a maximum of 300 marks and a one-third penalty for a wrong answer. The syllabus broadly covers general knowledge and contemporary issues, Hindi and English language skills, reasoning and quantitative aptitude, education policy and measurement, management and financial administration, office procedure, pedagogy and digital literacy. The Commission lists fifteen possible centres and notes that the list can change. The final-merit weightage is 75:25 for the CRT and interview, so the application is the first gate, not the entire selection.
