A practical application checklist helps here because HAL combines branch-specific degree rules with a short, time-bound online submission window.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has opened 120 Design Trainee and Management Trainee vacancies under Advertisement HAL/CHRC-TM/RECT-02/2026. The current official registration page and the 13-page detailed advertisement show that applications opened on 29 July 2026 and close on 14 August 2026 at 14:00 hrs. The closing time covers both online submission and the applicable fee route, so this is a deadline to work backwards from rather than a date to leave for the final evening. The key checks are the exact engineering branch, aggregate marks, age cut-off, category and post choice. Read the official HAL detailed advertisement before using the live registration page.

What the 120 vacancies cover

HAL divides the recruitment evenly between 60 Design Trainee and 60 Management Trainee vacancies. That headline split is only the starting point: the detailed advertisement publishes a separate discipline and category table for each post. A candidate should therefore match the degree branch to the notified discipline before treating the total as a personal opportunity. The roles may be posted across HAL production, overhaul and service divisions, research and development centres and offices in locations including Bengaluru and Tumakuru, Hyderabad, Nasik, Koraput, Barrackpore, Lucknow, Kanpur and Korwa.

Post-wise disciplines and vacancies in the official HAL advertisement
PostDiscipline-wise vacanciesTotal
Design TraineeAeronautical 4; Electrical 7; Electronics 20; Instrumentation 3; Mechanical 22; Computer Science 3; Metallurgy 160
Management TraineeElectrical 11; Electronics 12; Mechanical 27; Computer Science 1; Metallurgy 2; Production 5; Civil 260

The branch list is more detailed than the short discipline labels. For example, the advertisement maps several allied names into Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Computer Science and Metallurgy for Design Trainees, and into Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science, Metallurgy, Production and Civil for Management Trainees. It also states that an engineering branch outside the notified list is not eligible for consideration. Do not rely on a broad label such as engineering graduate; compare the exact degree title and the advertisement's allied-branch list.

Use the marks and age rules as a self-check

The qualification is a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology, or an equivalent qualification as described in the advertisement. HAL specifies a regular or full-time degree from a recognized university or institution under the stated course structure. Final-year or final-semester candidates may apply if they have the prescribed aggregate up to the last semester at the time of application, but the final degree result must still meet the requirement by the interview stage. Integrated five-year engineering degrees are also addressed in the notice.

Place your details beside the official requirements

AvsarIQ shows your saved profile next to stated requirements. It does not make a final eligibility decision.

The notice provides age relaxation of five years for SC and ST candidates and three years for OBC-NCL candidates, along with the stated provisions for PwBD candidates, Jammu and Kashmir domicile during the specified period and eligible ex-servicemen. Category benefits depend on the documents and conditions in the advertisement. OBC-NCL applicants should also note the central-list and certificate timing conditions described by HAL. AvsarIQ can place a saved profile beside the stated fields, but HAL remains the authority on whether an individual application is accepted.

The selection test is discipline-heavy

The selection process has an all-India online computer-based selection test followed by a personal interview at Bengaluru for shortlisted candidates. The test is two and a half hours and has three parts: 20 multiple-choice questions on General Awareness, 40 on English and Reasoning, and 100 on the concerned discipline. The candidate chooses Hindi or English for the test while applying, and the advertisement says that choice cannot be changed later. Candidates also select preferred test cities, but a preference does not guarantee the eventual centre.

Selection stages and preparation implications
StageOfficial patternPractical preparation focus
Online test160 MCQs in 2.5 hours: General Awareness 20, English and Reasoning 40, discipline 100Prioritise the notified technical discipline, then timed language, reasoning and awareness practice
ShortlistingCandidates are called for interview in a 1:5 ratio by discipline and category, as described in the noticeTreat the written test as the main ranking stage and keep records ready
InterviewPersonal interview at Bengaluru; final merit gives 85% weight to online test and 15% to interviewPrepare a concise technical and project explanation alongside document originals
MedicalPre-employment medical examination is required before joiningRead HAL's medical standards attached with the advertisement

The notice says candidates must secure at least 50% marks in both the written test and interview, with reserved-category relaxation as per the rules. Before appearing for the test, candidates must carry an accepted original identity card and a duly attested copy as instructed. The interview schedule in the advertisement is at Bengaluru in September 2026, subject to the recruitment timetable and call notice. These steps make the application more than a form-filling exercise: the degree branch, test-language choice and original-document trail all need to remain consistent.

Finish the online application before the last afternoon

HAL directs eligible and interested candidates to apply online through its website's Careers section. The registration window in the detailed advertisement runs from 29 July 2026 at 14:00 hrs to 14 August 2026 at 14:00 hrs, and no other application mode is accepted. The live registration page currently links the concise and detailed advertisements, so open the notice first and keep the form session for a deliberate final review.

  1. Confirm that the post and discipline selected in the form match the exact notified branch list. One application is permitted for one post and discipline, so decide the route before submitting.
  2. Keep an active email address, mobile number, Aadhaar details and semester-wise educational marks ready before starting the form.
  3. Prepare a recent passport-size colour photograph in JPG format below 180 KB, as specified in the advertisement.
  4. For UR, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, plan for the ₹500 application fee plus any applicable payment-gateway charges. SC, ST, PwBD and internal candidates are exempt from the application fee under the notice.
  5. Choose Hindi or English for the online test carefully; the advertisement says the choice cannot be changed after applying.
  6. Select test-city preferences with the understanding that HAL may allocate, cancel or reschedule a centre according to the conditions in the notice.
  7. Review the name, date of birth, branch, marks, category and payment details before final submission, then save the application confirmation page and payment acknowledgement.
  8. Keep the detailed advertisement and the attached medical standards available for the next stages; the application window closing does not end the document and preparation work.

Training, pay and the service agreement

Selected trainees undergo a 52-week training programme with theoretical and on-the-job modules at locations decided by HAL's requirements. During training, the advertisement states Basic Pay of ₹50,000 plus Variable Dearness Allowance and Canteen Allowance, with bachelor accommodation admissible under company rules. On successful completion of training, trainees are absorbed as Engineers in Grade II on the ₹50,000–₹1,60,000 scale, with other benefits according to the applicable company rules.

There is also a service commitment to read before applying. The notice says selected candidates execute a service agreement to serve HAL for five years excluding the training period. If the agreement is breached during training or after absorption, the reimbursement of actual training and recruitment expenses, remuneration and related costs is subject to a maximum of ₹15 lakh. This is a material condition, not a footnote, so keep it in the same decision file as the branch, marks and deadline checks.

A final HAL checklist

Before you submit, compare the exact engineering branch and aggregate percentage with the official advertisement, check age as on 14 August 2026, select the correct post and test language, prepare the photograph and fee, and save the confirmation page. Do not convert a broad engineering background into a final eligibility conclusion when the notice lists specific branches. If any certificate, course mode, category condition or medical requirement is unclear, use the advertisement and HAL's official Careers route for the final decision.
