ISRO URSC Apprenticeship 2026: choose the right route before you apply

ISRO’s U R Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru has opened URSC:03:2026 for 410 apprenticeship positions for the 2026–27 training year. The intake is divided into three routes: 220 Graduate Apprentices for B.E./B.Tech holders, 120 Technician Apprentices for diploma holders, and 70 apprentices for Diploma in Commercial Practice. The official advertisement gives each route a separate branch or qualification table, so the useful question is not simply “How many ISRO vacancies are there?” It is “Which published apprenticeship route matches my qualification, passing year and application history?” The notice also creates a practical two-portal sequence: register on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal and then submit the URSC Apprentice application through UMANG. That sequence means an applicant can lose time even with the right qualification if the NATS enrolment number, certificates or portal uploads are not ready. The advertisement separates the intake by the credential used for the apprenticeship. Graduate Apprenticeship is the B.E./B.Tech route and carries the higher monthly stipend shown in the notice. Technician Apprenticeship uses a diploma in the respective engineering or technology discipline from a recognised State Board. Commercial Practice is a separate diploma route rather than an engineering branch. The three totals below add to 410, but they are not interchangeable vacancies: a degree applicant should compare against the Graduate table, while a diploma applicant should compare against the Technician table or the Commercial Practice row where that credential is relevant.

For the Graduate route, the PDF lists Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Automobile Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. The largest graduate allocation in the published table is Electronics and Communication Engineering with 83 positions, followed by Mechanical Engineering with 50 and Computer Science Engineering with 40. The smaller branches are still separate routes in the notice; applicants should not assume that a related degree can be moved between rows. The Technician table lists Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Instrumentation and Automobile disciplines. The advertisement says the diploma must be in the respective discipline. These are published vacancy and qualification descriptions, not a final decision about an individual profile.

The PDF says that candidates who passed out during 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 are the intended passing-year group, and that only candidates who completed the qualifying examination as regular candidates should apply. It also says that candidates who completed the qualifying examination earlier than 2021 are not eligible. Because 2021 is not included in the positive passing-year list and is not described clearly by the later phrase, a 2021 pass-out should not make an assumption from a summary article; check the official URSC page for any clarification before submitting. The notice separately excludes people who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, people with one year or more experience from an institution, and people whose earlier apprenticeship was terminated or who resigned. Combining this apprenticeship with another institution’s apprenticeship is not permitted.

URSC’s instructions make the application path sequential. First, the candidate registers on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal and enters the candidature details. The notice says to upload the degree or diploma certificate, as applicable, and a valid government-issued identity document during enrolment. After successful NATS registration, an enrolment or apprenticeship registration number is generated. That number must be entered in the URSC Apprentice application on UMANG. The PDF then directs candidates to register or log in to UMANG, search for “URSC Apprenticeship,” choose the position, enter the required details and submit the application. In practical terms, save the NATS number before moving to UMANG and keep a copy of the final submission. The official page links to UMANG; use that current route rather than an old third-party form link.

The advertisement is unusually specific about file preparation. It asks for all semester or year marks certificates in one file not exceeding 1 MB, and a degree, diploma, provisional or passing certificate in one file not exceeding 1 MB. Photograph and signature scans are requested in JPG, JPEG or PNG format with a maximum size of 50 KB each. The notice also asks category candidates to supply the relevant certificate in the UMANG field, and it sets additional document requirements for PwBD and EWS candidates at verification. The safest routine is to create a folder with the original certificates, a clean scan of each file, the compressed upload versions and a text note containing the exact passing month, year, aggregate marks and NATS number. The official instructions say that entered data is treated as final and that discrepancies can cancel candidature, so check the numbers against the certificates rather than retyping from memory.

The notice does not describe a written examination for this apprenticeship intake. It says candidates will be shortlisted based on the percentage in the respective discipline, called for document verification, and placed on a panel based on academic scores in the degree, diploma or Diploma in Commercial Practice. Induction against the vacant positions is then made according to the panel position, and selected candidates are informed by email. Shortlisted candidates are not eligible for travelling allowance for document verification. The PDF also says that originals must be produced, that category and EWS documents must follow the prescribed formats where applicable, and that a medical certificate is required at joining. This makes an accurate application record more important than trying to optimise for a test that the published notice does not mention.

The current official URSC page gives 28 August 2026 as the last date for online submission, while the PDF states that registration closes on 28 August at 23:59 hours after opening on 29 July at 12:00 hours. Leave time for NATS registration, number generation, UMANG entry and a final certificate comparison; a last-minute start can turn a correct route into an incomplete submission. Re-open the official URSC page on the day you apply for any corrigendum or addendum, because the notice says future instructions will be published on the ISRO or URSC website.
