The quickest way to understand CERT-In Scientist-B 2026 is to start with the GATE paper, not the headline vacancy count. The direct-recruitment advertisement divides 133 Level-10 Scientist-B posts into Computer Science and Information Technology, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Each discipline is tied to one GATE paper code and its own degree table.

That structure creates a practical application check: the GATE paper, the essential qualification and the discipline selected in the form need to line up with the official Table V. The notice also requires the qualification by the cut-off date, does not require experience, and uses GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 scores. This article explains the published conditions and the document sequence; it does not make a final eligibility decision for any reader. Use the CERT-In recruitment page, the detailed advertisement and the official application portal before submitting.

The three discipline routes at a glance

The official PDF lists vacancies by discipline and reservation. The totals below are the discipline totals in the advertisement; the actual number of posts is described there as tentative and may increase or decrease at CERT-In's discretion. Read the reservation columns and the PwBD suitability notes in the PDF rather than treating the total column as a guaranteed appointment count.

CERT-In Scientist-B discipline and GATE-paper map
DisciplineVacanciesRequired GATE paperQualification route described in the notice
Computer Science and Information Technology83CSFour-year engineering/technology degree in the listed CS/IT-related disciplines, or listed science/computer master's route, or MCA
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence25DAEngineering/technology or listed science, computer, data and AI-related master's route in Table V
Electronics and Communication Engineering25ECEngineering/technology or listed electronics, communication and related master's route in Table V

The table is a navigation aid, not a substitute for the qualification clauses. For CS, the advertisement includes a four-year Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology route, a listed Master of Science route and MCA, with a long subject list that includes computer science, information technology, software systems, artificial intelligence, data science, information security, cyber security, digital forensics, machine learning and related disciplines. For DA, the list expands across data science, artificial intelligence, information systems, cyber law, computational science, cryptography, machine learning, cloud security and similar subjects. For EC, the degree list includes electronics, electronics and communication, electronics and instrumentation, mechatronics, robotics and automation, drone technology and autonomous systems.

The important point is the conjunction: a qualifying GATE score by itself is not the whole qualification check, and a related degree does not automatically become an accepted discipline. The recruiting authority's Table V and the cut-off-date requirement control the final assessment.

What the advertisement says about GATE and experience

CERT-In accepts a valid GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the paper matched to the discipline: CS for Computer Science and Information Technology, DA for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, or EC for Electronics and Communication Engineering. The advertisement says the qualification must have been obtained on the cut-off date, which is 17 August 2026. It also states that no experience is required.

A candidate should therefore keep two separate checks visible while reviewing the form. First, confirm that the GATE score card is for one of the three permitted years and the exact paper code used for the chosen discipline. Second, compare the degree title, duration and subject wording with Table V and keep the certificate and marksheet ready. The notice says an equivalent qualification claim will not be entertained as a substitute for the prescribed qualification, so a broad similarity argument is not enough on its own.

Age, posting and documents to prepare

The upper-age table uses completed years as on the cut-off date. It lists 30 years for UR/EWS, 33 for OBC (NCL), 35 for SC/ST and 40 for PwBD, with additional category-specific PwBD entries of 43 for OBC (NCL) and 45 for SC/ST subject to the conditions in the advertisement. Service-candidate and ex-servicemen provisions are also stated in the notice. Do not apply a relaxation informally; match the applicable category, reservation and certificate rules in the full PDF.

The posting clause is broad: a selected person may be posted anywhere in India or outside India in the interest of the organization. That is materially different from a state-limited opportunity, and it belongs in a candidate's decision before the form is completed. The official advertisement also says the application is online only, through the CERT-In website, from 14 July to 17 August 2026 at 5:30 PM. The application fee is nil for all categories.

  • Recent coloured photograph and signature in the file sizes specified by the advertisement.
  • Date-of-birth proof, matriculation certificate and senior-secondary certificate.
  • GATE score card, essential qualification certificate and the corresponding marksheet.
  • CGPA conversion certificate if the university does not provide a usable conversion formula.
  • Category, PwBD, age-relaxation, experience or no-objection documents wherever applicable.
  • A final confirmation page after registration, form completion and document upload.

The application sequence is registration, filling the online form and uploading the documents, followed by downloading the confirmation page. The advertisement warns that the application is complete only after final submission and that some fields, including name, category, address, mobile number and email, cannot be changed after submission. Aadhaar-based authentication is to be used at every stage. These are process conditions, not cosmetic form tips: a missing confirmation page or an incomplete upload can leave a form treated as incomplete.

Selection is more than a GATE-score shortlist

Selection sequence described in the detailed advertisement
StageWhat the notice saysWhat to keep in view
ShortlistingDiscipline-wise and category-wise GATE merit, subject to availability, generally in a 1:5 ratioA score meeting the application conditions does not guarantee an interview call
Document verificationOriginal documents are checked before the personal interaction/interviewNon-production or mismatch can prevent progression
Personal Interaction/InterviewTechnical knowledge, communication/comprehension and academic performance; maximum 50 marksMinimum qualifying marks are 50% for UR and 40% for EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PwBD as stated
Final merit60% weight for the best eligible GATE score and 40% for the interaction/interviewThe final list is discipline-wise and category-wise

CERT-In gives equal weight to GATE 2024, GATE 2025 and GATE 2026 for the shortlisting and final-merit framework, provided the score is in the relevant paper. The final selection is not a raw GATE ranking: the advertisement assigns 60% weight to the GATE score and 40% to the personal interaction/interview. The interview itself is assessed across technical or academic knowledge, presentation and communication, comprehension, and academic performance. The notice also sets minimum qualifying marks for the interaction/interview, so a high GATE score does not remove the need to clear that stage.

For a careful preparation plan, separate technical revision for the relevant GATE paper from document verification and interview preparation. Keep the degree transcript, conversion evidence and category documents consistent with the claims in the form. Read the complete tie-resolution and verification clauses in the official PDF if shortlisted.

The revised FAQ is important for diploma-related questions

CERT-In's live recruitment page links a revised FAQ and a specific clarification telling candidates who have completed a three-year Diploma course to refer to Question 24 for application instructions. That is a current official clarification, but it should not be read as a blanket change to the Scientist-B qualification table. Use the revised FAQ alongside the detailed advertisement, compare the exact qualification and GATE-paper route, and follow any instructions that apply to the document set being uploaded. Where the FAQ and the advertisement need to be read together, the official CERT-In page is the correct place to check for the latest version.

A safe final check before 17 August

  1. Select only the discipline whose GATE paper code and degree route you can support from Table V of the official advertisement.
  2. Check age in completed years on 17 August 2026 and read the full relaxation clause if relying on one.
  3. Prepare the GATE score card, degree certificate, marksheet, date-of-birth proof and category or other supporting certificates.
  4. Use the official CERT-In application route, complete every upload and download the final confirmation page.
  5. Keep the application record and login details safe, then monitor the CERT-In recruitment page for document-verification and interview notices.
  6. If shortlisted, carry the original documents and review the personal-interaction requirements before the scheduled date.

The current AvsarIQ record is a structured summary checked against the official recruitment page, advertisement, FAQ and application route. It is useful for keeping the deadline and opportunity context visible, but it does not replace the notice. The official authority decides how a particular qualification, certificate, category or application record is treated. Recheck the linked sources before submission, especially if CERT-In posts a later clarification or changes the application page.
