CERT-In Scientist-B 2026 application closed: revised FAQ, diploma guidance and next steps

This is a material revision to AvsarIQ's earlier CERT-In Scientist-B guide. The original application deadline has passed, and the official page has changed in a way that matters to candidates reviewing their records: it now links a revised Frequently Asked Questions document and specifically directs candidates who completed a three-year Diploma before a lateral-entry B.E./B.Tech to Question 24. The official portal's current message says that new-candidate registration is over. The recruitment remains a 133-post Level-10 Scientist-B selection across CS, DA and EC streams, but the practical question has moved from how to submit a fresh form to how to interpret the current official instructions and monitor the next stage. Always use the live CERT-In recruitment page, the detailed advertisement, the revised FAQ and the official application portal before relying on any recruitment instruction.

The change is not simply the passage of time. CERT-In's official recruitment page is marked as last updated on 20 August 2026 and now shows three current signals that affect how the earlier guide should be read: the 17 August 2026, 5:30 PM deadline remains the displayed last date; the page links a revised FAQ and says candidates with a completed three-year Diploma may refer to Q24 for application instructions; and the page exposes a correction-window item with a separate official portal route. The public recruitment page and the application portal do not state a new submission deadline in the material checked for this revision. Treat the application as closed unless CERT-In publishes a specific reopening or correction instruction for already-registered applicants.

Question 24 in the revised official FAQ covers a specific education history: a candidate completed a three-year Diploma course, then entered a B.E./B.Tech through lateral entry, and successfully completed that degree. CERT-In's answer is an application-form instruction: the Diploma particulars should be entered in the “12th or equivalent” field in the Educational Qualifications tab. This is a placement instruction for the form. It is not a blanket declaration that every Diploma, degree title or GATE-paper combination satisfies the Scientist-B advertisement. The detailed notification still controls the essential qualification, the relevant degree discipline and the required GATE paper. Keep the Diploma certificate, lateral-entry or degree record and the final qualification documents consistent with the fields used in the application.

The official advertisement describes 133 Scientist-B vacancies in three discipline streams: 83 in Computer Science and Information Technology, 25 in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and 25 in Electronics and Communication Engineering. The relevant GATE papers are CS, DA and EC respectively. The notice accepts valid GATE scores from 2024, 2025 or 2026, requires the prescribed essential qualification by the cut-off date, and does not require experience. The stream totals are a navigation aid; the reservation, qualification and suitability conditions in the full notification control the application and later scrutiny.

Candidates who submitted an application should preserve the application number, confirmation page, submitted-document copies and login details. The revised FAQ says that editing is allowed only before final submission and that changes are not permitted afterward; that instruction should be read together with any later official correction-window notice. If CERT-In activates a correction route for existing applicants, use only the link published on the official recruitment page and follow the dates and fields stated there. Do not create a second registration or assume that a visible portal link means a new application window has opened.

The recruitment is not decided by a GATE score alone. The detailed notice describes discipline- and category-based shortlisting, document verification and a Personal Interaction/Interview. It assigns 60 percent weight to the best eligible GATE score and 40 percent to the interaction/interview, with the interview assessed on technical or academic knowledge, presentation and communication, comprehension and academic performance. The notice also gives upper-age rules—30 years for UR/EWS, 33 for OBC-NCL, 35 for SC/ST and 40 for PwBD subject to its conditions—as on 17 August 2026. These are published rules, not a conclusion about any person's eligibility. Keep the exact category certificate, qualification wording and GATE paper aligned with the application record.

The useful update for a reader is therefore precise: the fresh application window has closed; the official page has added revised FAQ and diploma-form guidance; and the existing CS, DA and EC qualification structure remains anchored in the detailed advertisement. A correction-window signal is not the same as a new application deadline. Use the official page and portal for any subsequent notice, keep the submitted record intact, and do not treat this article or the AvsarIQ summary as a final eligibility decision.
